Ugandan Giveaway April 12, 2010

Filed under: giveaways — mommybrainusa @ 12:43 pm

Hello World-Wide-Webbers and Ultimate Blog Partiers!
I have to tell you about this amazing company I have come to have a wonderful relationship with! The company is called 31 Bits, and they are amazing!

This is the blurb from 31 Bits’ website “31 Bits is centered around using the creative art and entrepreneurship already present in the women. Our goal is to help get them out of poverty, provide consistent schooling for their children, and proper nutrition and healthcare for the entire family. We do this by creating an international market and a voice for the beautiful jewelry the women are already making. All of our products are bought directly from the women, are fair trade, are made from recycled paper, and are sold in boutiques across the United States. We envision that in two years we will expand 31 Bits to partner with local Non Government Organizations to initiate and fund community based projects directed by the needs and desires of the community.”

Wow, tell me that right there doesn’t make you want to buy a truckload of them?! Well if that didn’t get you then skiddadle your little booty over to 31Bits and check out the amazing necklaces and bracelets. I bought one at an event they had at our Church, then I got talking to the girls, Kallie, Brooke, Jessie, Anna, and Alli. I loved everything they told me about 31 Bits, everything they told me about the women, everything they told me about their lives over in Uganda. These girls are doing amazing things, with amazing Ugandan designing women, thanking God all the while!

As I sat in their office getting to know these girls, asking how I can help out, I browsed the drawers, bought so many bracelets and necklaces and I’m still overflowing my closet with them… I girl can never have too much jewelry! (My husband sometimes disagrees, but then he loves the designs I’ve picked out, so I think he doesn’t mind)

These necklaces and Bracelets are made by hand, out of 100% recycled paper by women in Uganda I dream of meeting. These designs mean the world to me personally because I want to visit someday and hug these women that have blessed my life with such gorgeous creations!

31 Bits has recently been blessed in a new exciting venture… they partnered with Reef to make the
The Ugandal

Anyway, I own many 31 Bits bracelets and necklaces and yet I can’t get enough of them… so scoot on over and get in on my obsession!

Covering Review April 10, 2010

Filed under: reviews — mommybrainusa @ 10:02 pm

I received the The Cover Me Strap by Little Car in Retro Mama color, which is black with white polka dots. The Cover Me Strap is a fashion necessity as well as a Mommy must-have! I have a “Hooter-Hider” that a friend made for me, and yet it’s not always with me or its in the washing machine when I need it most. I’m a semi-germaphobe so I have issues with using the same blanket out in public more than twice without washing it, especially if it falls on the ground!

My little one is only 7 months and still breast feeding, so I need to make sure I constantly have something with me when running errands to cover up so he can eat. It’s hard to keep a blanket nicely draped over your shoulder when a 7 month old just likes to flail and push blankets away from his skin. It’s hard enough to keep fixing it and shoving the ends of the blanket under your bra strap or holding it in your teeth while you adjust. ENTER THE COVER ME STRAP! Oh my goodness I love it, my little one doesn’t mind it, and actually when he sees it now he gets quite excited because he knows it’s time to eat! I have used the strap to connect to my Kikoi (African lightweight cotton blanket). The Kikoi is about the only thing my little one will let me use to drape over him to nurse him but it doesn’t stay well on it’s own, so the Cover Me Strap is such a life-saver! I have also used the Cover Me Strap with a lightweight blanket over his stroller to keep the sun out while on walks. I used it with a lightweight blanket over the Bjorn carrier when my son was asleep on me during a party… fabulously kept the blanket in place without ever getting in his way.

The Cover Me Strap is adjustable so that it can fit me AND baby AND the stroller AND the Bjorn AND the list goes on!
I was so excited to find so many uses for this product, and I love that it is so compact, I keep it in my purse so I always have it with me!

The only change I would suggest for this product is the size of the “mouth” of the clip. It works well with most things but I have one blanket that doesn’t fit in it, making it unable to clamp down. Other than this tiny problem, I can say that this is by far my new favorite product because I can use it with almost anything and Mommies really need more products that are so versatile!

Disclaimer: I was sent this product by Baby and Me Gifts
And I was not paid for this review.

Premades April 9, 2010

Filed under: reviews — mommybrainusa @ 10:24 pm

So I stumbled across this website that makes Premades. If you don’t speak Internet, “premades” here means PREMADE template for a website!

If you’ve been following me for any amount of time you’ll notice I have an issue committing to a template for Mommy Brain USA, I keep changing it. (I apologize!) Well I keep doing that because there aren’t any that shout to me or look Mommy Brain -ish.

So as I said I stumbled on this website and I LOVE Lena’s work!! (Lena is the owner/creator and she’s so adorable! I recieved a quick, very sweet response to my question within hours!) Unfortunately right now she only has templates for the blogger platform but she will be expanding to wordpress very soon!!!

Please visit her site and purchase a premade from her if you have a blog of your own!! Read the “about me” on the website, it made my heart melt and she and her family are in my prayers, I encourage you to support them through prayer as well!! God hears every prayer!

www.premades4purpose.com that’s the fabulous site. Lena, I will be waiting patiently for wordpress templates!

Ultimate Blog Party 2010

This is such a Fabulous Friday idea these Mommy Bloggers had!! I told you it would be a Fabulous Friday!! I am on their list of blogs and its so fun!

Hi Ultimate Blog Partiers!! I’m Lindsay, a SAHM (for those of you that don’t speak Mommy, that means Stay At Home Mom).
I studied abroad in college and I’m pretty sure I left half of me over there, I’m overly obsessed with the color teal, I wash my feet before bed, and I am not a fan of American Idol. I have a planner that dictates my life, a computer that speaks to me, and a wireless device to read my millions of books. I sing in the shower and sign worship songs while I drive (yes sign not sing). I love school, writing massive papers and doing research. I have more shoes than Imelda Marcos and I believe (and my great grandmother used to tell me) God is physically touching us when it rains, so rain is my favorite thing.
I am Mommy Brain, welcome to my USA.

The Ultimate Blog Party, check out all the fun Mommy Blogs that are linked to their site, there are some really amazing ones, ones that will make you laugh and cry and think about the way you live your life!

They have some amazing prizes for the bloggers — the ones I want to win are: 4, 6, 8, 9, 11, 17, 35, 51, 73, USC 17, USC 39, and USC 61. Go check them out! 5 Minutes For Mom

Fabulous Friday April 9, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — mommybrainusa @ 8:39 am

Today I woke up to my little one crying, because his poor little gums were hurting him…. he’s getting his first tooth. However, today was a lot better because instead of waking me up every hour starting at 2, he just woke up once at 7. PRAISE THE LORD!

Today is going to be a Fabulous Friday. It just is. I’m going to win something, I hope, I just feel it. I want to post a giveaway on here soon, I just haven’t found the “Fabulous Friday” perfect one yet, maybe later this afternoon!

Today will be a Fabulous Friday, say it, believe it, make it so.

Theoretical Thursday April 8, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — mommybrainusa @ 8:41 am

Today I woke up, just about every hour on the hour since 2am. Why you ask… well that would be because of my precious little one. He has been waking up in the middle of the night once every night for the past two weeks, this is so unlike him, so I figured he’s just growing and super hungry. So half-asleep I nurse him back into his own little dreamland and we’re ok until 7am in which he wakes up again usually starving. This is where some people will say “let him cry it out”. Well I don’t believe in that method for my son and here’s why: He is the most calm, laid back baby I have every been around (I was a nanny for 12 years so yes I’ve seen my share of babies and their temperaments). Anyway, when he cries, he’s not just “crying to cry” there is actually a purpose and a reason for it. So when he wakes up in the middle of the night I know something it wrong, he’s one of those babies that sleeps soundly for 8-9 hours straight through the night… Angel Baby!!

So anyway he’s been waking up a lot right? Well this morning (and I say this morning because it really was) he woke up about 5 times before 7am. Ya, that’s fun. I was house-sitting my parents house, a friend of mine was staying with me and he left early for work. I’m pretty sure he was wondering what all the screaming was coming from my room. Sorry to worry you Parker!

Well it’s 5:30 right and I’m walking around my room trying to calm my sweet little one back to dreamland, nothing it working, he wouldn’t nurse, he wouldn’t take his pluggy, he just SCREAMED! So I put him on the changing table to change his diaper. Bad Idea. Never change a SCREAMING baby. He peed all over me. Not once, but twice. We’re not talking a little piddle of pee. No, we are talking a full-on-high-powered squirt gun pee. (Insert squirt gun noise).

Finally I put my theoretical self to work, “hmm maybe there’s an off-chance he’s getting a tooth…” I stick my finger in his mouth and wow check that out, there’s a tooth poking the surface – RIGHT THERE! Oh wow, poor little monkey no wonder he was screaming his head off! I felt so bad, I ran to the kitchen and grabbed the chilled teething toys I had bought for him 3 months ago and left at my parent’s house. He sucked on them and slobbered all over them, while clutching my shirt and breathing that terrible breath when you can tell they’ve been crying for a long time.

He’s doing much better but I’m sure he’ll be cuddly all day, poor little man!
